Now in its sixth edition and organised by Eclipse Live, the event will feature performances from a number of top Nigerian music heavyweights and there will be a special guest appearance from South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly.
With DJ Neptune on the wheel of steel, churning out the hits from the superstars, the new age acts, a stage introduced at the last edition will see the likes of Blaqbonez, Boogey, Dami Oniru and more take to the stage.
The festival, which offers more than just music, also provides spots for gaming, food, networking and merchandise. It is created with the goal of encouraging the development of African talent and promoting artistes from within the continent.
The event had as headliners, Nigerian International music acts such as TuFace Mayorkun, ShowDemCamp, Tiwa Savage, Brymo, Adekunlle Gold, Ycee, DJs Spinall and Aye as well as the new acts, who gave stellar performances.
The festival was started in response to the demand from young Nigerian audience for affordable access to live entertainment. Though still relatively young, the festival has become a special hub for the meeting of established African acts with a rising generation of promising young musicians.Co-founder of the festival, Chinedu ‘Chin’ Okeke said, “The idea behind the movement was to create a safe space for the youth that would enable and empower them, as well as channel their energy into something positive.”
“More than a festival, there is also a movement around it which has evolved into the Gidi Tribe — which represents young Africans who refuse to take no for an answer and they are determined to succeed with whatever they are given. It’s an energy and attitude. The Gidi Tribe identity only became very clear at the end of 2017 edition,” he stated.
On how crew selects the headliners, Okeke says a number of things go into the selection and a number of people who work on it, adding that it’s something he enjoys. “Let’s start with the next generation; we have now got a team whose responsibility is to curate that next generation. They introduced me to what’s being called the Soundcloud generation: Tay Iwar, Maka, Lady Donli and others.
