A total of 16 institutions are expected to participate in the 3rd Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Tertiary Institutions Football Championship tagged “Kwara 2019” scheduled to hold between 13th to 20th October in Ilorin.
The tournament which is being sponsored by JAMB with the sum of N25m will involve 16 teams made up of five Universities, five polytechnics, five colleges of Education and one from Innovative Entrepreneur Initiative (I.E.I) being institutions that JAMB conducts examinations for.
Speaking at the weekend at a Conference Hall of the Kwara Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Akanbi Shuaib disclosed that the sum of N1m has been set aside as prize for the winner, N750,000 as second prize while the third position will go home with N500,000.
Shuaib who is the Permanent Secretary of the ministry assured all the participating institutions, officials and players that all their entitlements including feeding, accommodation and other logistics would be accorded top priority and paid accordingly.
The Permanent Secretary warned that only bonafide students of the participating institutions would be allowed to feature in the tournament as there would be no room for mercenaries.
Shuaib commended JAMB for sponsoring the tournament since 2017 adding that it would serve as an avenue to discover football talents from the grassroots for future national and international competitions.
