Talented American singer and actress, Mary J. Blige has just made history for being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.

She earned the first nomination for playing Florence Jackson in the Netflix film Mudbound, and the second for writing the song “Mighty River” for the film.

Her nominations makes her the first person to be nominated in these two categories for the same film.

Mudbound which is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography, is about two families, one white and one black, living in the Mississippi Delta during World War II. Blige plays the matriarch of the Jackson family.

Mary J.Blige earned two Golden Globe nominations back in December 2017 in the same categories. According to her, she couldn’t fight back tears following the nominations. A lot of her colleagues have congratulated her on social media. Actress, Queen Latifah, took to Instagram to say:

” Congratulations on your two Oscar nominations!!! You have made history as the first person to be nominated for a performance and original song in the same year. I am filled with joy for you, and I’m so proud and inspired by your talent, your drive, and your brilliance #Oscarnoms #Mudbound”
