Chocolate City President, Elected Chairman of Nigeria Digital Music Monitoring Group | @COSONng

The newly established Nigerian Digital Music Monitoring Group held its inaugural meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the COSON Headquarters in Opebi, Lagos. Top on the agenda of the meeting was the election of a Chairman to head the activities of the Group. Mr. Audu Maikori, President, Chocolate City Group was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Nigerian Digital Music Monitoring Group.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Maikori, a lawyer and intellectual property expert, thanked the members of the Group for the confidence bestowed on him and promised to give his best to the success of the Group and the Nigerian music industry. He said, “The Nigerian music industry is not the next oil, it is the oil. I thank you for the honour of being elected as Chairman of this important Group and I will take this very seriously. I believe that the membership of this Group has all it takes to turn this industry around and we will give it our very best”.

The Nigerian Digital Music Monitoring Group was set up as one of the major resolutions adopted at the just concluded Nigerian Digital Music Summit which had the theme: “Establishing the Basic Rules of Engagement in the Digital Environment”. Members of the Group include top music industry executives, copyright experts, government agencies and representatives of telecommunications operators in Nigeria.

The Group is mandated to work closely with the Nigerian Copyright Commission, the Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Information Technology Development Agency, the National Assembly and other relevant bodies to develop specific methods for the implementation of the resolutions of the Summit. The Group is also charged to monitor progress in the exploitation of music in the digital environment and report at regular intervals on the state of progress made.
