Rita Dominic and Bimbo Akintola fights for Best Actress award

As President of AMAA Jury, Bernie Goldblat announces winners in the various categories of the awards tonight, expectations are high as all eyes are on the acting categories and this year, two top Nollywood actresses, Rita Dominic (’76) and Bimbo Akintola (93 Days) ‘will be battling for the award of Best Actress in a leading role.

The two actresses would be battling for the award with top actresses from other parts of the continent including, soft-spoken Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson who was nominated for her role in “Keteke”, Cero Tshanda (Felicite), Oscar award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o, top actress, Josette Bushell-Mingo (While We Live),and two of South Africa’s leading actresses, Khabonina Quebeka (Dora’s Peace) and Zimkhitha Nyoka (Vaya).
Meanwhile, judging from Bimbo Akintola’s performance as ‘Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh’ in the movie on the Ebola scourge, ’93 Days’ which was directed by Steve Gukas, one will be tempted to tip her for the award.
Her powerful role delivery in the movie that also featured other notable actors such as Keppy Ekpeyong, Francis Onwochei and Paul Adams still dominates discourse in the nation’s movie industry. But like Bimbo, Rita Dominic is also a potential winner of this year’s Best Actress award following the role she played in “’76”, a movie that recounts the story of the 1976 military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, the then Head-of State of Nigeria.
Recall that Rita Dominic was adjudged “Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) at this year’s African Movies Viewers Choice Award,AMVCA, following the eruptive role she played in ‘76’movie.
