‘Collaboration among journalists key to ending terrorism’

The Minister of Interior of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, yesterday described collaboration among journalists as key to ending terrorism and violent extremism.

He spoke in Niamey at the opening session of a conference tagged “Media and Terrorism in the Sahel: Analysis and Strategies” organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a humanitarian foundation based in Germany but with a lot of interest in Africa.

The conference brought together journalists, academics and international field experts from Niger, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Mauritania.

Bazoum said almost all the countries in West Africa were facing one security challenge or the other, adding that media freedom and collaboration among journalists were key to ending activities of groups like the Boko Haram which had claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and destroyed the economic fortunes of many.
